Rabbit Foot Variegated Maranta
The Variegated Rabbit Foot Maranta (Maranta leuconeura) is native to Central and South America where it grows as groundcover beneath the shade of trees. The Maranta Prayer Plants are one of the many plants that display nyctinasty, or the ability to close up at night. These plants will fold their leaves up like praying hands when they sense the changes in light and temperature that indicate night has fallen. This daily prayer has made these plants a symbol of gratitude.
While different varieties of Maranta can have silvery white or red markings, the Rabbit Foot Maranta displays brilliant green leaves with darker green-brown markings that resemble rabbit tracks, hence the name Rabbit Foot. The Maranta’s sprawling nature makes it a wonderful selection for shallow planters or hanging baskets
Care Instructions: Bright to medium indirect light, chunky well-draining potting mix, water when leaves begin to curl downward.
