Shampoo Ginger (Zingiber zerumbet) is native to areas of Asia and Australia, but has also been naturalized in the islands of Hawaii where it’s known as awapuhi. This member of the ginger family has long slender green leaves that grow from rhizomes beneath the soil—unlike their culinary cousin, this ginger although edible is rather bitter, but it’s still prized for the fragrant and moisture rich liquid that can be squeezed from its eye catching red cones.
Care Instructions: Bright indirect light to part-shade, keep soil moist through growing season, protect from frost
